Convert Photoshop brushes to PNG!

This is helpful for people who don’t have Photoshop and find some brushes they want to use, for instance in PSP. If you have Windows, the first thing you need to do is to get this FREE utility called ABRviewer. Download and install it.

NOTE: you need to have Microsoft .NET Framework installed or it won’t work.

Once you have it installed, open ABRviewer and go to FILE>OPEN BRUSH SETS. Navigate to an .ABR file and click ok, the pane on the right will show thumbnail previews of the brushes in that set. You can change the size of the preview by either typing in a number (between 80-270) or by clicking the arrows where it says “Thumbnail size” on the top left. If you click on any of the brushes it will show the brush dimension in pixels also…very useful!

So here I’m just previewing my Rose Garden brushes. Now if you want to extract those brushes, it’s so simple. Click on EXPORT>THUMBNAILS, choose where you want to save them, and TADA – you have a folder full of PNG files! If you look in the folder they’ll look dark because PNG files have a dark background until you open them in a program that can deal with alpha transparency.

Now you can open the PNG files in PSP or whatever program you have and do whatever you want with them. Cool!
